What is ConvertKit

Convertkit is an email marketing platform for creators, bloggers and online entrepreneurs. It offers features that help this category of people to build an audience, communicate effectively with subscribers and also sell to them. If you are a blogger, Youtuber, Course creator, Podcaster, Author, or Small business owner who needs a tool to build a large audience and send them emails frequently, then ConvertKit is the tool you need.

ConvertKit has a generous free plan that lets you build a landing page for collecting leads and it allows you to host and communicate with 500 email lists. When you exceed this number, you are expected to pay 29$ per month.

One of the key selling points of ConvertKit is its simple user interface. Simple at the front end but with advanced mechanisms at the backend, that’s how I would like to describe it. Unlike some other email marketing platforms where you need to study how the platform works, Convertkit has a shorter learning curve.

There are tons of YouTube videos and articles you can learn from if you meet a roadblock.

Why you Should Build your Landing Page on ConvertKit

Most people who need landing pages need it for 3 reasons; to showcase their work, sell or acquire leads. The ConvertKit landing page builder is the perfect tool for anyone who wants to use a landing page to acquire tools. However, there are more reasons why you should use ConvertKit to build a landing page for lead acquisition.

1. Easy to Set Up

ConvertKit does one simple task, collect leads and send emails. Hence the platform is user-friendly compared to most other platforms. On platforms like Sendinblue, you need to consume gazillions of videos to get a grasp of how it works.

Since the Convertkit landing pages builder does not allow you to tamper much with the layout and structure of the design, you can easily change the image, font, or background colour of your landing page.

2. Email Collection

Some landing pages builders like Wix and Carrd do not allow you to collect contact details of people who visit your landing page unless you upgrade to a pro plan. However, on ConvertKit it is free and you can host as many as 500 emails.

3. Custom subdomain

You can set up your custom subdomain on ConvertKit. Your subdomain will look like this yourname.ck.page. Some other platforms do not allow you to choose a subdomain name. They randomly assign a name or numerical.

Disadvantages of Using Convertkit as Your Landing Page Builder

Although ConvertKit is a powerful email marketing platform with a landing page builder, it has its demerits.

1. Pixel Tracking

Do you want to retarget people who view your advertisement? The Convertkit landing page builder does not have a feature where you can add a meta pixel or Google pixel for tracking.

2. Limited Analytics

Although ConvertKit has a reports feature, this feature is limited to showing how many views your landing page is getting and how many people have subscribed to the page. You have no idea of the gender of who is visiting your page, where they are visiting from, their age, etc.

3. Pricing

For 29$ monthly, you can send emails to 1,000 subscribers. This may be a bit pricey for some users. If the purpose of building your landing page is to collect leads and communicate with your subscribers via email and you can not afford this price, then ConvertKit is not for you. You can try the Google sites builder.

From the list of templates available, preview and select which is most suitable for your needs.

At the right-hand side of the next page, you can access the settings for your landing page.

Select a field in the form to be able to edit the form field. The template we selected for this tutorial is the cedar template. The template has three form fields which are the first name, last name and email address.

By default, only the email field is compulsory for the visitor to fill. However, if you want to make it compulsory for the visitor to fill in the other fields, you have to make sure you select the field and tick “required” on the right-hand side.

Click any element you want to edit to open the settings option. From here, you can make a few changes to your landing page.

You can add a thank you page to your landing page. What is a thank you page?

A thank you page is the page a user will be redirected to after they fill out the form on your landing page.

Locate the “Add page” element at the top-left corner of the page and click on it.

The thank you page draws its design from the template of the initial page so you do not have to design from scratch.

When you are done designing your page, click the publish button. Now copy your landing page link and add it to your social media bio, email signature and other relevant places.
